What Is Intimate Partner Sexual Assault?

Sexual assault can happen in a dating relationship, marriage, or long-term partnership.

Consent is required every single time, regardless of the relationship status.

When someone:

  • pressures you

  • ignores your “no”

  • uses force

  • takes advantage when you’re distressed

  • has sex with you when you’re frozen or numb

  • or assumes sex is “owed” because you are together

…it is not consensual.

It is sexual assault — even if you loved them.

Many women feel confused because:

  • “He’s my boyfriend.”

  • “We’ve had sex before.”

  • “I didn’t fight back.”

  • “I froze.”

  • “I didn’t want to make him angry.”

Your body’s response was a survival mechanism, not a choice.the best therapist is someone you feel comfortable with. Finding the right therapist is a lot like dating ……you may need to book several intro calls to find out whose energy feels right for you.
